The Exact Order You Should Be Applying Your Makeup

The order makeup products are applied is always a tricky subject. With so many different opinions on which products should be applied first, if you should do your eye makeup before foundation, and what order to apply your concealer. If you're as lost as we once were, you're in the right place!

To help make the makeup application process less overwhelming, V Kosmetik founder Vickie Joseph is sharing her expert opinion.

Step One: Skincare

Prepping your face before applying any makeup is crucial for ensuring your makeup goes on flawlessly and stays there throughout the day. Starting with a good skincare routine will also help reduce flaking and help the skin have a natural glow.

Step Two: Primer

While using a primer is an optional step of your makeup routine, those with oily skin will benefit the most from using a primer. Our foundation primers will help give your makeup a matte finish, help minimize fine lines, and helps makeup stay flawless all day long.

Step Three: Brows & Eyes

While tackling your brow and eye makeup before your foundation isn't necessary, it helps eliminate the mess of cleaning up eye makeup smudges, especially if you're going for a heavier look.

Step Four: Foundation

Your foundation helps blend your complexion and gives you a good base to work off of when applying concealer, blush, bronzer, and highlighter. After your primer, foundation should always be your first step for all over face makeup.

Whether you use a foundation or a BB cream, we always recommend applying it before concealer.

Step Five: Concealer

Once you've applied your foundation, its time to work on concealer to enhance the under-eye area and tackle any redness or blemishes. We always recommend applying concealer after foundation as your foundation can surprise you with how much it ends up covering!

Step Six: Bronzer, Blush, and Highlighter

After your skin is evened out, it’s time to apply bronzer, blush, and highlighter! Add a pop of color to your cheeks, some shimmer to your high points, and utilize bronzer to give yourself a bit of contouring.

Step Seven: Lips

Bring your personality to life and add a little OOMF! to your face with a fun shade of lipstick or lipgloss.

Step Eight: Translucent Powder

Utilizing a translucent powder on the face after you have finished your makeup will help protect against shine, as well as help your makeup stay in place all day long.
